District Policies

The South Lincolnshire Green Party campaigns for the following policies in electoral wards across the district council areas of South Kesteven and South Holland:

1) ACTIVE TRAVEL

Active Travel

We are firm believers in active travel, whether for leisure or work place commuting.  We pledge to improve walkways and cycle routes within town and village centres to allow more people to choose these active travel options.

This not only increases our own physical and mental health, but also reduces the congestion and emissions from our currently clogged streets, and reduces our monthly bills as vehicle fuel costs continue to soar.

2) TOWN CENTRE REGENERATION

Grantham Town Centre

Our local town centres need our help.  The stayed and archaic planning policies of building further out from town centres, often on green spaces, should be reversed.

We would concentrate on regenerative projects in the centres of the likes of Grantham, Spalding, and Bourne with the aims of both bringing prosperity back to our high streets and protecting our green spaces from further development.

3) ENVIRONMENT FIRST

Environment First

We will campaign and push for any large scale building projects to take our Climate Emergency seriously.  We want to see planning applications make environmental considerations front and centre of any project.

We have been dismayed to see hundreds of mature trees and hedgerows removed for the Grantham Relief Road.  Despite the assurances of the planners that these will be replaced upon completion, this will be with under developed plants and works have effectively removed these trees from the eco system for over half a century.  This is simply not acceptable in our current Climate Crisis.

We will campaign, as we did with the plans to remove 67,000 trees at Grantham Barracks, to ensure the environment comes first in any future development plans.

County Policies

The South Lincolnshire Green Party campaigns for the following policies across our electoral regions of Lincolnshire County Council:

1) "20's PLENTY" CAMPAIGN

20's Plenty Campaign

The "20's Plenty" Campaign, to reduce the speed limits in our town and village centres to 20 miles per hour, is growing in support across the country.

One aspect of this policy is to improve the safety of our roads. This is for both residential and commercial areas in towns, and also for rural villages who continue to be plagued by inconsiderate and dangerous drivers.

Continued research has also shown that reducing the speed limit leads to cleaner air and better traffic flow in traffic hot spots.

2) BIODIVERSITY BEST PRACTICES

Biodiversity Best Practices

We have been hugely encouraged to see more and more people understand and commit to improving the biodiversity of their surroundings, whether in their place of work, their gardens, or even their balconies.

Current government and council policy places the responsibility on individuals to find out what to do, often leading to the proliferation of non-native species and short term fixes.

We would seek to produce council-approved "best practices" to empower individuals to join us in the continuing fight to improve our local environment.
